Weird motel stories and bad drivers

Yep - so on the past Easter weekend, my bf and I were in the US, doing some site-seeing and shopping (mostly shopping).

Unfortunatley, due to our rush of booking hotels (this was a last minute trip), we did not notice we had booked a MOTEL instead of a hotel. But, it was a Best Western so Best Western tends to be a great chain (I've never complained until now). Still - we would have preferred a hotel.

Of course, being tired from all that walking and shopping that day, I decided to drink a coffee (in the afternoon - yeah, bad decision) which meant I couldn't sleep at night. That leads to laying awake in bed, trying to sleep and hearing night time noises. Yep...night time noises from the noisy amorous couple above. Not so bad - considering it was only the bed I was hearing and not much else...until the end. That was just SOO disturbing. Of course, my bf was dead asleep. I think it was a combination of the caffeine and the noises I heard but I couldn't sleep for a LOOONG time after that - yep, I was VERY disturbed.

My bf said I should have woke him up and we could have gone into a competition, haha!! *rolls eyes* I guess it wasn't so bad. It could have been a LOT worse, in terms of what I was hearing.

But I guess there were a few things about the trip that could have been better (like crazy US drivers who don't signal when changing lanes on the freeway (yeah - they call it the freeway), and also cutting people off at 120 KM/hour). Yes - we both noticed that US drivers don't signal very much - when changing lanes, even when turning right and some are just plain clueless and shouldn't be on the freeway.

Of course there are some very good drivers, but I guess its the bad and clueless drivers that I remember clearly - like the idiot driver who cut off a big giant truck with a giant load of logs / wood. We were one lane over and slightly behind it. Yeah - you can imagine the truck fish-tailing with its big giant load and the fine choice of adjectives we had for the driver of that car. Did I mention it was raining off and on and the road was wet??? If the truck driver wasn't paying close attention, that would have been a big mess on the highway, and I'm pretty sure I'd be in the hospital.

So kudos to the truck driver for his defensive driving skills, and kudos to my bf for being able to handle driving in the US. I know I would have been freaking out many times if I was driving - missing exits (they don't give much warning for exits - once you see the sign, so is the exit), and freaking out over people cutting me off at high speeds, etc. It was stressful enough, just as a passenger.

Of course, I don't think my bf would be that good at navigating the city either so our roles are perfect. I navigate - he drives.

Oh, and thanks to my bf for his patience while I did my shopping! Yep. The shopping was good! :D

But next trip, I think we'll spend a little more time planning and hopefully I won't have a weird motel or hotel story to tell. ARGH!!!
