Hockey is a big thing in Canada. Just like football is massive in the United States.
Personally, I follow NHL playoffs a bit loosely (i.e. I don't watch games religiously), but I do pay attention when there's a Canadian team in the finals. Even better if its the Canucks. Oh well, what can I do about it. But, hey, Edmonton Oilers made it! No one expected Edmonton Oilers or Carolina Hurricanes to be in the finals. That was quite a surprise!
So of course yesterday was game 7 of the finals, the deciding game for the Stanley Cup. So, like many in the city, hubby and I went home early to catch the hockey game. (At least traffic wasn't so bad.)
Unfortunately, despite all the jinxing, and cheering at the TV, Edmonton lost. :( It was a good game though, and I thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment.
For some reason, I was even more happier to know the Canadian troops in Afghanistan (many of them from Edmonton) gathered together to watch the game, even when it was very very early in the morning for them. The idea of it is just heartwarming. Although I can't quite explain why.
Nope, I just can't put words on it.
So...back to the regularly scheduled programming...there's always the Stanley Cup playoffs, next year.
Maybe I should go find something else to cheer about....maybe I should join frodowm on the soccer bandwagon... I feel like yelling at the TV again haha!

I just watch highlights - it's not as though I watch the full game...
Yea, too bad Edmonton didn't win.
The result of Edmonton and Carolina getting into the playoffis is a direct result of the "new" NHL rules.
