Its been two weeks since I've been back on vacation and I still wish I was there haha!!
It was an awesome trip, driving down the Oregon Coast to San Francisco, and then to Sacramento. We did some detours too and saw some places we originally didn't plan for, like Reno!! (although we just drove through it) We even went to Lake Tahoe!
Even though we were on the trip for 7 days, it didn't seem like a long time, as we were always busy, lots to see, and of course lots of shopping at the outlets (particularly in Woodburn, Oregon where we took advantage of the zero tax).
As we were on our way back toward Canada, hubby and I were already talking about planning another trip to go back to the Oregon Coast (we didn't spend that much time there), for a more relaxing and lazy vacation, and also to visit his cousin again, and to see Lake Tahoe, yet again.
Highlights of this trip included:
- meeting hubby's cousin (he was also meeting her for the first time) and driving to her house
- meeting cousin's animals (4 dogs, a cat, and a parrot)
- being greeted in downtown San Fran by a flash mob (grrr); the one-way streets and trying to get to our hotel
- pretty Oregon Coast drive
- walking the sand dunes
- shopping, shopping, shopping
- Lake Tahoe drive and the 10 MPH hairpin turns (not to mention the zero MPH sign which was supposed to be 10 MPH sign - the 1 had eroded away)
- cable car ride in San Fran
Memorable things:
- huuuge portion sizes in the U.S. (actually, there were a lot of differences that we noticed, about U.S. vs. Canada but I won't include them here)
- the sushi place we went to in San Fran which was over-priced and had poor service - the bill arrived BEFORE we got all our food, and they took about 1 hour to get us our edamame....edamame!! How long does it take to boil water and dump in the edamame??? Actually, food in San Fran is generally more expensive, but sushi is definitely more expensive!! (and its average too)
- 14 lane highways!! and rush-hour starting at 1 pm and ending at 8 pm >.>
- the "California lane-change" where people cut you off, and change lanes without signalling. But because its so normal down there, everyone does it, and no one honks or gets mad
- surviving the road trip without A/C in the car
- sitting in traffic behind a horrible accident that just occurred about 20 cars in front of us - where a truck and its trailer had jack-knifed onto their sides O.O The poor driver!!
What I liked the most? I have no crazy hotel/motel stories to tell, or any near-accidents to report. ^^ Too bad there's actually a limit on vacation time haha!!
