A Rant - Grouse Grind

*rant on*

Seriously, if you aren't physically fit (and you should know whether you are or not), don't try the Grouse Grind!!

Hubby and his bro tried the Grouse Grind this weekend. They went at their usual pace climbing up the mountain which is supposedly almost like a massive stair climber (cuz seriously, you're going UP a MOUNTAIN!!). This translates into major muscle work, and cardio exercise. So be prepared - and that means do not bring your little 7 or 8 year old, baby, or dog.

When hubby and his bro arrived at the bottom of the MOUNTAIN, there was a firetruck there, and these poor, very fit firemen, in full gear, carrying medical equipment had to climb Grouse Grind. In hot weather. In full gear. Did I say full gear? Carrying medical equipment.

They were climbing to rescue a climber who had reached the 1/4 mark and was distressed, meaning he was lying on the ground, feeling dizzy. Poor guy. Maybe he didn't know better, as there are a lot of people who don't know what to expect with the Grouse Grind. It happens. At least it was at the 1/4 way mark and not the half-way mark.

So hubby and bro continue to climb up, occasionally passing people, getting passed themselves. And then hubby passes a kid and his father...a 7 or 8 year old kid who was telling his father that he hated him because he took him on the Grouse Grind...up a mountain. Yeah, I'd be like that too if I was forced on a trip to climb a mountain at that age, and when you reach the half-way mark, what do you do? Go down the mountain...the very very steep mountain? or keep going up?? Or do you stop and get someone to rescue you? And they have to climb up and carry you back down. Either way you're going to have to move. Sitting there will do nothing.

The past times hubby has done the Grouse Grind, he has seen people try to take up their dogs, and one woman carrying her baby, in one of those things strapped to her back....sorry but what happens if you happen to slip and fall!! Have some sense!!!

It's called the Grouse GRIND for a reason. It's a MOUNTAIN! Please don't think of it as a day trip.

If you want a day trip, take the tram instead.

Why (oh, why???) do people insist on DRAGGING their very young children and pets UP the grind??? That's just nuts! Hopefully they carry enough water for themselves, and child and pet, as well as food!! People become faint because there's no energy left in their bodies, and plus the higher elevation doesn't help either! Children should NOT be climbing The Grind!!
