All this talk about cute fuzzy animals and getting a pet, I didn't think I could handle it. Did I snap?
Nah. I plotted though, and on Friday, went out to buy a container for a fish, then went to the neighbourhood fish store and bought a very pretty blue betta fish (or Siamese fighting fish), along with all the neccessities for it.
I've been wanting a pet for awhile, and a little low maintenance fish would have to do for now.
So in the car, I told hubby what I had bought (hee hee). I explained to him how low maintenance the fish was and he was ok with it. He even suggested naming it Carbuncle, haha! (probably cuz its blue and has a pretty tail)
So when we got home, we fixed up Carbuncle's little home and transfered him in. Little guy didn't look too happy. Maybe cuz it was a small container? Or maybe because it was all the moving around he didn't like...about 40 minutes from the fish store to home in a little plastic baggy would make anyone sick I think.
So we decided to get him a slightly larger container and bought him a round fish bowl that night, instead of the little cylinder-like container I got him. Then we transfered him again. (He probably didn't like us now hehe.) Poor guy.
He didn't seem very active so I looked up "Siamese fighting fish" and found some articles on how to take care of them. And of course, found out that they ideally need a larger container and a heater. What happened to low maintenance??? Oh well. So I went to my mom's house and dug around for our old fish tank and supplies (most of the stuff went directly to the garbage), then went to Petcetera to pick up some fake plants and underwater accessories for the fish to play with. We didn't get many accessories though. Actually, we even forgot to pick up more rock for the bigger tank. *sigh* Poor fishy will have to live in his medium sized bowl for a few more days.
At least he's a little more active now, swiming in circles. He seems to be curious about us, but very shy. He likes to hide a lot.
Well, at least he's not in a plastic cup like some of the the other betta fish in the pet store. Poor fishies!!
